The controversy revolving around Patriot Party candidate Jonah Nazareth intensified on Thursday. Following the leaked scandal on Nazareth’s involvement with members of the British government, particularly former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Nazareth completely ignored the scandal and instead unleashed a fiery speech.
Nazareth proposed creating a large moat to deter immigrants from entering the country illegally, saying “our jobs and our resources are at risk.” He claimed that under his administration, the border patrol would both build this moat and “analyze people who look like they have bad intentions.” Furthermore, in his next breath, Nazareth's subsequent invocation of the Bible only deepened the racial undertones of those who might have “bad intentions” as presumably non-white immigrants: “Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried…” (Daniel 12:10).
However, it was not only Nazareth’s rhetoric that caused controversy, but also his policy suggestions. In addition to his border policies, his foreign policy is particularly unpopular. Nazareth pushed for supporting Russia in the war in order to lower petroleum prices, a decision that is widely disliked in both the Democrat and Republican parties. Critics argue that this decision would most likely not lower petroleum prices. The US does not buy petroleum from Russia, and even if Russia were to win the war with our support, European sanctions on Russia, the real price driving factor, wouldn't be repealed.
Additionally, newly uncovered footage of Nazareth depicts him ranting that the White House should be renamed to the “White Buckingham Centre,” and recently Nazareth committed a gaffe in which he replaced “God bless America'' with “God save the Queen.” Nazareth’s suspected collusion with the British government is gaining stronger and stronger evidence.
Taking into account the Nazareth Campaign’s decision to ignore this scandal, and given Nazareth’s suspiciously strong support for foreign countries like Russia and Britain, it is highly likely that Nazareth is far from the “Patriot” he names himself as.
Will Nazareth really act in the best interest of the people of America? Or will he act as a puppet for the Russians and the British? Whatever the case, the Nazareth Campaign has kicked off with a controversial start that may endanger the Campaign's chances in the primaries.
